The Sixties saw Colin Chapman’s persistent combination of dedication, design skill and astute commercialism, bring Lotus from the ranks of specialist constructor, to major British manufacturer. By the end of the decade, and with new premises established at Hethel in Norfolk, Lotus were producing over 3000 cars a year. With Elite production at an end, the Seven was joined by the Elan, the Elan +2 and the race-bred, rear-engined Europa. Lotus were now the dominant force in world motor racing, taking multiple GP wins and titles in Formula 1, 2, 3 and sportscar racing, as well as an historic victory at the Indianapolis 500.
